Hair
This spring and summer it is all about texture, texture, texture! The best part about texture is that anything goes. Brides’ can achieve texture multiple ways, but the two favorite ways to achieve texture is with braids or curls. Both are simple to incorporate and can be as bold or reserved as each Bride’s personality.
Hair pieces and feathers are still very popular and the options for designs are endless. Birdcages are so-so and most brides will agree that veils are out.
Another popular wedding hair trend is a sleek or clean front with a messy back. This trend remains fairly popular year after year.
Tips:
Make-Up
We love make-up and the number of looks you can create with colors, techniques, and a little bit of time are endless. This spring and summer, champagnes / golds and pinks are going to remain very popular. Other trends that are rising in popularity are the cat eye and pops of boldness. when sporting bright red lips and smokey eyes… never have both, you do not want your lips and eyes competing. The Cat Eye is returning in great popularity by stars like Adele, television shows such as Mad Men, and the overall reminiscence of the 1960s.

Tips:
Remember, even though trends are great, you want to create a look that will stand the test of time and not create a dated look.
We wish you the best of luck in planning your big day!

One of the most exciting parts of planning a wedding is finding the perfect dress. Most single gals have imagined what their future wedding dress might look like and how gorgeous they will look in it. For me the experience was perfect. I have been married for almost 4 years and I remember every detail like it was yesterday. A friend had recommended Normans Bridal in Lebanon, Missouri. Andrea, my maid of honor went with me to my appointment, and it was everything that a bride-to-be could ask for. It was exciting to play dress up and emotional finding my perfect dress. Brenda Norman and her staff were wonderful and made my experience very special. Naturally, when Andrea got engaged I recommended Normans. Once again Brenda and her staff did an amazing job making her experience just as wonderful. There were smiles and tears and at the end of the consultation, Andrea found her perfect dress.

This post is dedicated to my friend Andrea who is currently planning a beach destination wedding. In the search for everything beach, I came across some a couple great local cake designs that I would like to share. After all, every special occasion deserves a special cake.
What comes to mind when you think beach wedding? A beach themed cake need not be as casual as it sounds. I typically think of sand, sea shells and tropical flowers. The colors that come to mind are sea blues and greens, crisp whites and tans or sandy colors. Sea shells immediately make you think beach. Maybe you want something that just feels tropical. An arrangement of fresh tropical flowers may be exactly what you are looking for. Whether your style is unique, elegant, casual or sophisticated, let your imagination run wild. This is your day, celebrate it with style.
Over the next few months we will be adding more information for planning your beach or destination wedding. Until then, visit www.celebrationsbysonja.com or www.stylebytheslice.com for inspiring cake ideas. Happy planning!
We are only a few months into 2012, and lots of couples are planning their special day. Here are a few predictions for the 2012 year.
2012 Wedding Themes
Couples this year will be embracing a variety of themes to celebrate their big days. Expect to see nautical, carnival, vintage, wine lovers, etc. Details will be incorporated in the decor, wedding invitations, even favors. Theme weddings are perfect for the DIY bride. There are so many blogs and articles to help jump start your dream wedding.
2012 Wedding Colors
Many of the bold colors from 2011 will continue into the 2012 wedding season. Gray and sunny yellow will be on many bride’s wish list. Expect neutrals to be popular again. Especially for the spring and summer outdoor weddings.
2012 Wedding Food
Wedding cakes are no longer the main centerpiece to a wedding reception. Large, statement dessert tables with delicious pies, cakes and pastries will be a big hit in 2012.
2012 Invitation Trends
Traditional invitation no longer reign supreme with brides-to-be. This year expect to see a lot more creative alternatives. Seal and send invitations, DIY printable invitations and plantable invitations are each growing in popularity.
Looking for a fun party idea? Host a White Elephant Gift Exchange. It is such a great way to get guests to mingle.
THE GAME:
1. Each guest who wishes to participate must contribute a gift. Everyone sits or stands in roughly a circle around the pile of gifts.
2. Prepare slips of paper equal to the number of gifts with clearly written numbers. Be sure to distinguish 6 from 9, 1 from 7. Each participating guest draws a number and holds onto that slip of paper.
3. On the first turn, the guest with paper slip #1 chooses a gift, opens it, and all admire it.
4. On the second turn, the guest with paper slip #2 gets the choice of “stealing” any unwrapped gift (#1′s) or choosing a wrapped one. If #2 steals #1′s gift, then #1 must open a wrapped gift.
5. On the third turn, the guest with paper slip #3 gets the choice of “stealing” any unwrapped gift (#1′s or #2′s) or choosing a wrapped one.
The game continues based on the following:
1. If a gift is stolen from you, you can steal a gift (within limits, described below), or open a wrapped one.
2. The turn proceeds until a wrapped gift is chosen.
3. A gift cannot be immediately stolen back from the guest who just stole it.
4. The fourth “owner” of a gift gets to keep it. The gift is “dead” after it has been stolen three times.
5. “Owners” of “live” gifts must keep them visible and hold them up when requested.
6. The gift exchange ends when the last wrapped gift is opened. Usually, guests are encouraged to perpetuate the gift stealing as long as there are “live” gifts, but no one is obligated to do this.
Have a Happy Holiday season!
Hope everyone remembered to fall back today! I know I was excited for the extra hour! Too bad my little one isn’t taking it as well. Check back soon as we are updating daily!
